Screen shot of my first blog

I conceived of this blog originally as a way to just express whatever I was thinking. It didn’t have so much a theme as a simple stream of consciousness. Eventually, I started writing about the occasional sports topic, typically the Georgia Bulldogs or New York Yankees. But now, the blog has seemingly morphed into a semi-inspired catalog of everything in my life. It’ll touch on sports, yes, but it’ll also touch on motivational thoughts, random happenings and personal opinions more frequently.

It began with the title “Where ET Phones Home,” for no particular reason except that “ET” is my initials. That began to sound a little childish and unimaginative, so I changed a few things at the beginning of 2009.

The actual inspiration for the new version of the blog and the title comes from a quote by Niccolo Machiavelli:

“Make mistakes of ambition, not mistakes of sloth. Develop the strength to do bold things, not the strength to suffer.”

I think that is a particularly beautiful quote because it gives you license to do whatever you can to develop and discover yourself. And to make as large of an impact on the world as you can. Because, in the end, it’s your strength to achieve that’ll overcome your failures.

As a little treat, feel free to check out my original blog on Blogger: Here’s the actual link

Beautiful quote. I’m going to use it. It goes into my favorite quotes file.
